The Difference Between SEM and SEO

The Difference Between SEM and SEO

I have had many ask me what the difference between Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is, so I thought I might throw a couple of definitions out there.
I am going to start with SEO, as it is a part of SEM. SEO is the act of optimising the HTML and other content of your website for relevant, targeted key phrases in order to attain higher natural listings than competing websites. SEO provides a cheaper long term solution for increased qualified traffic and generates customer inquiries that ultimately convert to sales.
Now SEM is broader than SEO. It includes SEO and other areas to improve a sites visibility in search engine results pages, like paid listings and paid inclusions.
You can think of SEM as more expensive and quite possibly more targeted, while SEO is free (not counting your time of course) and its purpose is to obtain better free search listings.
Personally, I would start with SEO and then move onto SEM

Make your website work hard for you

Does your website generate business for you. Here are some ideas to help make your website work harder for you.

  • Display your telephone number on your homepage. Ideally, put it in the upper right-hand corner. Position your telephone number in the same place on every page of your site.

  • Display the words "E-mail us" on your home page, just below your telephone number. some people like to call, others like to write.

  • Cloak ' your e-mail address, using ASCII character code, to stop spam. This can be done by a web development agency.

  • Include meta tags within the HTML of your website. This helps search engines find you. Note, however that not all search engines find you.

  • Provide useful, interesting content for site visitors. If your site simply tells visitors how wonderful you are, they are less likely to visit it than if you put something interesting to read and to recommend to others. The key is to produce significant amounts of new material on an ongoing basis.

  • You should not feel shy by putting offers in the website. The aim of this game is to get response, and offers do the tricks.

  • Place a e-newsletter in the website

  • Produce information products. Examples include a hints & tips' list or a buyer's guide. Offer them as free downloads in exchange for the recipient's contact details.

  • Set up links to other sites. This is not as altrustic as it sounds. Some search engines will rank you higher if you provide outgoing links, so your site will be more visible. Also visiters will see that you have done your homework and will appreciate being recommended to useful sites.

High Performance

“It is an immutable law in business that words are words, explanations are explanations, promises are promises but only performance is reality!” - Harold S. Genee

There are Seven discipline you must develop if you want to achieve your goal. I learn this discipline through practice in my day today life.

  1. Goal Setting

  2. Planning & Organizing

  3. Priority Setting

  4. More concentration on Highest Value activities

  5. Exercise & Higher Nutrition

  6. Learning & Growth

  7. Time for Important people in your life
Lets discuss this one by one

1.Goal Setting-

Every day morning I take few minutes to write my top goal which are on high priority in the present tense. You can take a spriral note book. By writing my ten goals at the beginning of each day, helps me to refresh my subconscious mind. This daily goal writing will activate your mental power. It will stimulate your mind & make you more alert. Every day you can find more opportunity & possibility to move towards your end goal. You can take a spiral notebook for this purpose.

2.Planning & Organizing-

There is a famous saying "A Goal without a Plan is only a Dream".
I take few minutes preferably a night before to plan all upcoming activities in the coming days. if you dream to achieve something then you have to plan them accordingly. You can divide your "end Goal" into some short term Goals. Once you start achieving these small goals nobody will stop you to achieve your end Goal.

3.Priority Setting-

This is very essential for high performance. setting priority will directly affect all time management, personal management, life management. Your life will become very easy if you set your set priority list & work accordingly.

4.More concentration on Highest Value activities

Your ability to work single-mindedly on your most important task will contribute as much to your success as any other discipline you can develop.

5.Exercise & Higher Nutrition

Your health is more important than anything else. By disciplining yourself to exercise regularly and to eat carefully, you will promote the highest possible levels of health and fitness throughout your life.

6.Learning & Growth

Continuous learning is the minimum requirement for success in any field. I have seen so many managers takes their own decision without going to the field or asking his/her subordinate. The possibility for wrong decision is high in this case. You can learn from CEOs of the companies and from workers also. A father can learn from his son. A single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of study.Whoso neglects learning in his youth, Loses the past and is dead for the future.

7.Time for Important people in your life

Relationships are everything. Build time for your relationships into every day, no matter how busy you get. Because relationship matters. Who all are important people in your life? The answer is with you. In a alumni meet one of my friend said "I become professional due to work load; so I am unable to give time for family, friends".
Nobody can give you solution for this. You have to find a solution to this.
